
Search and Rescue Service
Tasks of the SAR Service
The tasks of the SAR Service include searching for and rescuing any person in distress at sea, regardless of the circumstances under which he or she is in distress, and combating oil and chemical hazards and pollution of the marine environment:
- Maintaining constant readiness to receive and analyze notifications of danger to life and the occurrence of hazards and pollution at sea,
- planning, conducting and coordinating search, rescue and combating hazards and pollution,
- maintaining readiness of life-saving forces and resources and combating hazards and pollution at sea,
- cooperate during search and rescue operations and combating hazards and pollution with other organizational units
- cooperation with other rescue systems operating in the country's territory,
- cooperation with relevant services of other countries, in the implementation of statutory tasks.
The tasks mentioned above are performed by the SAR Service on the basis of the "Search and Rescue Plan" (SAR Plan) and the "National Plan for Combating Hazards and Pollution of the Marine Environment".
The SAR Service performs the tasks mentioned above on the basis of the "Search and Rescue Plan" (SAR Plan) and the "National Plan for Combating Hazards and Pollution of the Marine Environment".
The boundaries of the search and rescue area in which the SAR Service performs its tasks, and the rules of cooperation in the field of saving lives and combating hazards and pollution at sea with the relevant services of other countries are determined by agreements concluded between the governments of the countries concerned.
The SAR Service also performs other tasks related to maritime safety.
